Agnes the Attorney-in-Training: My Secret Weapon for Law School

While law school can be stressful and overwhelming at times, there has been one key thing that keeps me grounded: my dog, Agnes. For me, my best study buddy has been Agnes. Rescuing Agnes before my 2L (second year of law school) has been a total game-changer for my well-being and success in law school.
Mandatory Movement: Law school often means hours glued to a chair. Agnes, however, demands her walk and play time! These walks give me an opportunity to take a break and spend some time outside, creating an instant physical and mental reset.
Study Buddy: Agnes is always ready to join in my at-home study sessions. She's the best study buddy — quiet, supportive and provides instant stress relief. Science backs this up: pets lower our stress hormones and boost our happiness!

No Pet? No Problem!
I know not everyone can commit to owning a pet in law school, but you can still tap into the amazing benefits of animal companionship! Our local shelter, the Lawrence Humane Society, is always looking for help.
Volunteer: You can spend time walking dogs, playing with cats or just providing comfort to animals waiting for their forever homes. It's a wonderful way to get the "pet perk" without the full-time commitment.
Foster: If you have temporary space, fostering an animal is an incredible act of kindness that promotes their well-being and yours.
Whether you're cuddling your own furry friend or volunteering your time, making space for animals is an amazing, low-stress way to boost your health and ensure you thrive — not just survive — in law school. Just take it from Agnes, who is also earning a J.D., that is, a Juris Dogtorate degree.
