Fast-tracking your future

For students who know early on that law school is part of their future, the University of Kansas School of Law’s Legal Education Accelerated Degree Program offers a streamlined, supportive path that can save both time and money. For first-year KU Law student Sabrina Kopecky, the LEAD Program provided clarity, confidence and peace of mind throughout her accelerated academic journey.

Although most students apply to the LEAD Program alongside their undergraduate application, Kopecky first learned about the LEAD program just a month or two into her freshman year at KU. Within the political science department, conversations about the program were already circulating, and it quickly stood out as a natural fit for her.

“It got me closer to where I wanted to be,” she said. “As someone who was trying to be mindful of my finances, it also helped me save a year of tuition toward law school.”

The application process, Kopecky recalls, was refreshingly simple. A short essay was all that was required, and the process moved quickly. Importantly, the program also allowed flexibility. Students who later decided law school wasn’t for them were able to leave the program without any repercussions.

Once admitted, Kopecky gained access to dedicated LEAD advisors and program-specific events designed to keep students on track for law school. That early guidance made a significant difference, especially given the program’s accelerated pace.

One of the most valuable benefits of LEAD, according to Kopecky, was the program’s guaranteed admission to KU Law. The simplified admissions process without the need for a personal statement or letters of recommendation offered reassurance during an otherwise stressful time.

Compared to the other schools I applied to, the KU process was far simpler, and I heard back from them the fastest,” she said.

While graduating early came with challenges, most notably starting LSAT prep earlier than many students expect, Kopecky says the tradeoff was worth it. Even with the intensity of the timeline, LEAD provided a safety net that made the journey manageable.

Beyond logistics, the program also offered something less tangible but equally important: knowledgeable advising.

Being able to check in with someone who knew how the law school process worked was useful to me as someone with two degrees from different schools,” she said. “It was a one-stop shop for making sure I was getting all of my requirements done.

For Kopecky, the LEAD Program didn’t just shorten the path to law school; it strengthened it. By combining early access to law school advising, a simplified admissions process and financial savings, LEAD helped her move forward with confidence and prepared her for the next stage of her legal education.
